Frequently Asked Questions

Please find here a list of frequently asked questions.  If you have a question that is not answered here, please do get in touch.

  • No — you can book directly with us. Many clients come without a referral, although if you have recent scans or consultant letters it can be helpful to bring them along.

  • Your first session includes a full assessment, where we discuss your history, symptoms, and goals. We’ll carry out a physical examination, explain our findings, and start treatment straight away.

  • We provide treatment for musculoskeletal conditions, post-operative and orthopaedic rehabilitation, rheumatology, sports injuries, and general rehabilitation.  If youre not sure if we can help, please get in touch to ask and we can guide you.

  • Treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, acupuncture (AACP member), exercise-based rehabilitation, and Pilates-informed movement.

  • This depends on your condition and goals. Some people improve in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term rehabilitation. We’ll discuss this with you after your assessment.

  • Most sessions and classes are run by Saara. We also have another qualified physiotherapist who leads some of our Pilates classes. You’ll always know who is leading your session when you book.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and that we can work with easily during assessment (e.g. shorts or leggings, a vest or T-shirt). For Pilates, bring socks and clothes you can stretch in.  If doing a pilates equipment class or 1:1 it is good to bring grippy socks if you have them.

  • Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on core strength, posture, flexibility, and balance. Physio-led Pilates is taught by qualified physiotherapists, so exercises are adapted to your needs and safe if you have injuries or health conditions.

  • Absolutely. We run beginner, mixed ability, and advanced Pilates classes. All classes are physio-led and adapted to suit different levels.

  • Our classes are small to allow individual attention — 8 is the maximum number at Karhu Studio and 12 at Sherston Village Hall. Many classes are fully booked with waiting lists, so early booking is advised.

  • We ask for notice if you can’t attend. Missed classes can’t usually be refunded or transferred, but please get in touch if you have extenuating circumstances. For physiotherapy appointments, our cancellation policy requires at least 24 hours.

  • Yes, Pilates can be highly beneficial, but please let us know if you are pregnant or post-natal so we can advise on suitable classes or offer tailored sessions.
